The Giraffe Manor, built in 1932 by Sir David Duncan, is situated on 120 acres of forested land. 1974, Jock Leslie-Melville, grandson of a Scottish earl, and Jock’s wife Betty, bought the house and also founded the African Fund for Endangered Wildlife (AFEW). They translocated five babies of the highly endangered Rothschild giraffe to their property. They are the only people ever to have successfully raised wild giraffe, which have now grown and are having babies on their own. When Jock died, Betty decided to open her house, now called the Giraffe Manor, to visitors. It is the only place in the world you can feed giraffe from your second floor bedroom window, over the lunch table, and at the front door.

We did indeed have a fantastic time. Fantastic driver/guide. Nothing bad to state, he was a pleasure to be traveling with; full of knowledge and humour. He had plenty of time for us and was exceedingly helpful. Lodges were good, nice service, people. Standards of hotels were fine.
