BOMBOLULU WORKSHOPS AND CULTURAL CENTER More than just a workshop, Bombolulu is a vibrant community and a beacon of hope. Since 1969, this inspiring center has been empowering people with physical disabilities, providing them with vocational training and a platform to become celebrated artisans. Here, ability shines brightly, creating a space where over 100 men and women find economic independence and social integration.

Wander through the four sheltered workshops and feel the pulse of creativity. You’ll see firsthand how raw materials are transformed into exquisite jewelry, hand-carved woodwork, soft textiles, and supple leather goods. Be inspired by the artisans’ stories and their incredible skill—many of whom live in the adjacent housing units, making this a true community. At the on-site Cultural Centre, you can journey through Kenya without leaving Mombasa. Explore full-scale traditional homesteads from various tribes, learn about their unique ways of life, and feel the rhythm of Africa as you watch—and even join in—a lively traditional dance. This is a place where every purchase tells a story of resilience and beauty.

MOMBASA BY NIGHT DHOW CRUISE As the afternoon sun begins to soften, your evening adventure begins. Step aboard a majestic wooden dhow, a vessel steeped in centuries of Indian Ocean history, and set sail across the tranquil Tudor Creek. Feel the warm breeze and watch the sky ignite with color as the sun dips below the horizon—a truly magical start to the evening.Your dhow arrives at the Old Port, where you’ll disembark for a guided walking tour through the atmospheric lanes of Old Town. Your journey through history culminates at the monumental Fort Jesus, built by the Portuguese in the 16th century.

As night falls, you’ll be welcomed by torch-bearing performers for the spectacular Sound and Light show, which brings the fort’s dramatic past to life. Your evening culminates with a sumptuous dinner served alfresco in the fort’s moonlit inner courtyard, a memorable feast for all your senses.

BOMBOLULU WORKSHOPS AND CULTURAL CENTER

Bombolulu Workshops and Cultural Centre is located in Mombasa, Kenya, and works with more than 100 people with different abilities, men and women artisans to help them overcome their physical limitations and empower them economically and socially to become fully integrated members of their communities, also providing social benefits to the workers e.g. Clinic, Nursery School, Social Hall, Sports, HIV Prevention, etc. Bombolulu started in 1969 and the Association for the Physically Disabled of Kenya took over in 1987. This nonprofit organization produces crafts of a very high standard and gives vocational training to people with special abilities. we have 4 sheltered workshops, producing a range of jewelry, textile, wood and leather products. An on-staff designer creates new products, including the trademark Bombolulu recycled materials design pieces. Every year, thousands of different designs are produced for items of jewelry, wood, leather and soft furnishings. The workshops have a production capacity of nearly 250,000 separate items per annum. Many years of successful exporting have established the workshops as a reliable supplier and the project is a member of the WFTO (World Fair Trade Organization) and it is the trading partner of PEOPLink/Open Entry (USA). Bombolulu includes housing units for artisans, artisan workshops and a Cultural Centre which comprises of different traditional homesteads of the diverse tribes of Kenya. Explore different tribe house from all around the country, enjoy traditional dances and even learn how to dance like Africans do. Different communities display at the cultural center. Visit the workshops and interact with the artisans and see how we made all our handcrafts in wood, brass, textile, leather and castining. Bombolulu work shop. MOMBASA BY NIGHT DHOW CRUISE Enjoy the beautiful sunset as you cruise across the Tudor creek to the old port in one of the ancient Arabian dhows. This cruise will be a truly memorable one. The cruise starts at 5.30pm when you are picked from your hotel and driven to the Jahazi Marine Jetty on Tudor Creek. Sail across the creek to arrive at the old pot where you will be taken for a guided walk through the old town and into the Fort Jesus, an old monument built by the Portuguese centuries ago. Portuguese and Arab fire torch bearers welcome you to witness an amazing sound and light show followed by a delicious dinner that is served alfresco in the inner courtyard of Fort Jesus. After dinner at around 9.30pm you be driven back to your hotel. Night Dhow cruise.
