Kilimanjaro’s dramatic profile rises approximately 4,900 meters (16,100 ft) from its base to a breathtaking 5,895 meters (19,341 ft) above sea level.

Steeped in history and natural wonder, its summit was first conquered in 1889 by Hans Meyer and Ludwig Purtscheller. Today, the mountain forms the heart of Kilimanjaro National Park, a premier destination for adventurers worldwide. However, its famous “snows of Kilimanjaro” are a subject of intense scientific study, as the mountain’s glaciers and ice fields are rapidly receding.
