Our journey takes us to the breathtaking Mgahinga Gorilla National Park, a secluded sanctuary nestled in the volcanic peaks where Uganda, Rwanda, and the Democratic Republic of Congo meet. While lesser-known than its famous cousin Bwindi, Mgahinga offers an incredibly intimate and profound gorilla trekking experience.
Here, you won’t just see mountain gorillas; you’ll have the privilege of spending a precious hour with the renowned Nyakagezi group, often with fewer visitors around. This is more than a tour—it’s a quiet adventure into the heart of the jungle, culminating in a serene farewell at the stunningly beautiful Lake Bunyonyi. Prepare for a journey that will leave you with stories to tell for a lifetime.
Your adventure begins as our friendly driver-guide picks you up from Kampala or Entebbe. We'll wind our way southwest, with the landscape transforming before your eyes. A classic stop at the Uganda Equator line offers a perfect photo opportunity and a chance to stretch your legs. We'll enjoy a delicious lunch in Mbarara before continuing our ascent into the highlands, passing rolling hills and vibrant local communities. As the day draws to a close, we'll arrive at your lodge near Mgahinga, where a warm dinner awaits under a canopy of stars, with the silhouette of the Virunga volcanoes on the horizon.
Wake with anticipation! After an early breakfast, we'll drive to the park headquarters where the air is electric with excitement. Over a steaming cup of coffee, you'll receive a briefing from the passionate park rangers—your guardians and guides for the day ahead.
Then, the magic begins. Led by your expert guide, you'll step into the lush, misty forest. The trek itself is part of the adventure, each step bringing you closer to one of nature's most magnificent creatures. When you finally meet the Nyakagezi gorilla family, time seems to stand still. For one incredible hour, you'll observe them as they play, forage, and rest—a truly humbling and awe-inspiring encounter.
Afterwards, we'll return to the starting point for a well-deserved certificate commemorating your trek. The day isn't over yet! We'll then journey to the serene shores of Lake Bunyonyi ("Place of Little Birds"), where you can relax and reflect on the day's profound moments.
Enjoy a leisurely breakfast with stunning views over the lake's many islands. If you wish, you can take an optional boat trip to skim across the deep blue waters, visiting a local island community—a beautiful, tranquil contrast to the previous day's jungle adventure.
We'll then begin our journey back to Kampala or Entebbe, filled with memories that will last a lifetime. We'll arrive in the early evening, marking the end of your short but life-changing Ugandan safari.
