Towering over the Kenyan landscape at 5,199 meters (17,057 ft), Mount Kenya is Africa’s second-highest peak and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. This ancient, extinct volcano, which last erupted over 2 million years ago, presents a dramatic silhouette with its 12km-wide symmetrical cone and rugged, snow-capped peaks visible for miles.
The mountain is a world of its own, featuring three distinct peaks: Batian, Nelion, and the trekker’s summit, Point Lenana. Your journey up the scenic Sirimon Route takes you through diverse ecosystems, from rich montane forests teeming with wildlife to high-altitude alpine meadows and surreal, rocky terrain. The forested slopes are home to a surprising array of animals, including elephants, buffalo, zebras, sykes monkeys, and elusive antelope, making this not just a climb, but a true wilderness safari on foot.
