Escape the well-trodden path and dive into the heart of Ethiopia’s most spectacular natural corridor on this 5-day Rift Valley adventure. This tour is designed for those who want to experience the perfect blend of awe-inspiring landscapes, prolific wildlife, and rich cultural encounters, all within a manageable and unforgettable timeframe.

Your journey begins as we depart the bustling energy of Addis Ababa, descending into the Great Rift Valley. Our first stop unveils the contrasting beauty of the Abiata-Shalla National Park. Here, you’ll walk between the saline waters of Lake Abiata, often painted pink with thousands of flamingos, and the deep, volcanic depths of Lake Shalla. We then continue to the relaxing, bilharzia-free shores of Lake Langano, a popular spot for swimming and your first overnight stop, with its distinctive reddish-brown hue set against a backdrop of acacia trees.

The next day, we journey to Hawassa, one of the Rift Valley’s most charming towns. A morning boat trip on Lake Hawassa is a serene experience, where you’re almost guaranteed to see hippos yawning and a magnificent array of birdlife, from kingfishers to African fish eagles. Don’t miss the vibrant fish market, where locals and Marabou storks compete for the day’s catch.

The adventure intensifies as we drive to Arba Minch, which aptly means “Forty Springs.” The city is perched between the twin jewels of the Rift: the brownish Lake Abaya and the emerald Lake Chamo. The following morning, prepare for a true highlight: a boat cruise on Lake Chamo. This is where you’ll encounter the legendary “Crocodile Market,” a basking site for some of the largest Nile crocodiles in Africa. Sharing the waters are pods of hippos and countless birds, creating a scene straight out of a nature documentary.

Our cultural immersion culminates with a visit to the Dorze people in the highlands above Arba Minch. Renowned for their friendliness and remarkable skill, the Dorze will welcome you into their village of incredible elephant-shaped huts, woven from false banana trees. You’ll witness their masterful weaving techniques, sample local food like the bread ‘Kocho’, and gain a deep appreciation for their unique way of life.

This 5-day tour is a concentrated dose of everything that makes Southern Ethiopia magical—a journey of stunning visuals, thrilling encounters, and warm human connections that will leave you with memories to last a lifetime.
